We Have a Winner

Logan Davis Wins Spelling Bee

The 2008 'Iolani spelling bee champion is Logan Davis, Class of 2013, who prevailed in a hard-fought contest Wednesday afternoon in Seto Hall.

Dueling spellers, Logan and second place finisher, Maya Stevens, were the only two spellers left standing for several of the last of 22 total rounds.

Twenty-nine students originally took the stage for the school's annual bee.

For the first time Hawaii state rules allowed third and fourth graders to participate. Third grader Sabrina Kawakami is the Lower School winner.

Assistant Head Lily Driskill offered her congratulations to all of the participants. She gave special thanks to the organizer, Ms. Jane Romjue, saying, "Although many people assisted, Ms. Romjue does a superb job of organizing the details and helping our students enjoy a positive spelling bee experience."

Logan and Maya will represent 'Iolani in the Honolulu district competition. The two top candidates from that spell-off will advance to the Hawaii State Spelling Bee.
