The Iolani Peace Institute recently participated in the first Walk for Peace on the occasion of Gandhi's birthday.
Organized by Dr. Raj Kumar and the Indian-American Friendship Council, the walk will become an annual event. Its organizers hope to see it grow and prosper in coming years.
Participants this year came from a wide variety of peace-related organizations on Oahu. They walked from Kapiolani Park to the statue of Gandhi that stands under a large banyan tree in front of the Honolulu Zoo. There, in the banyan's shade, participants heard inspiring speeches on Gandhi's ideas.
